WE’RE ON HOLIDAYS!

The school year is over! Whether you have accomplished all your goals or you are still working over the summer to succeed in September retake exams, you have nearly 3 months to balance study with cultural and leisure activities.

Hence, now that you have plenty of time to enjoy yourself during your summer holidays… what about having fun by learning and practising English through fun activities, films, TV series or books?

What you will find here are some easy tips to improve your English. Click on the pictures to access the websites. Let’s start!

     1)    Watch and listen to American/British TV series or films with English subtitles. Don’t be afraid to pause it if you do not understand one word or sentence and go look for it! You can also watch TV at home in English by changing the language on your TV settings. It couldn’t be easier!

2)    Look for all information you need in English! You will find out that there’s actually a lot more information to access in this global language. Just google it!

3)    Improve your listening skills through songs, Podcasts or Youtube videos! You just need to look for your favourite songs and watch the videos on Youtube playing them with subtitles. Don’t be afraid to sing along at home and try to imitate the pronunciation.

4)    Choose a book you would really like to read and try to buy it in English at your local bookshop or order it via Amazon. At first, it might be challenging to understand all the words but carry on reading and you will learn without even noticing it!

5)    Change the language settings in all your technological devices and social networking sites, such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc. or even your video games! You will become used to the English terminology and English will become a part of your life!

6)    Finally, force yourself to write and speak in English as much as possible!

THE BIG CHALLENGE CONTEST 2016

The Big Challenge Contest is back at Samaniego High School! This school year 1º, 2º, 3º and 4º ESO CLIL students as well as any other non-bilingual volunteer students participated in the contest. They took the tests on 3^rd May and they were given the prizes in an Award Ceremony that was celebrated at the Assembly Hall on the last school day in June. They were very happy with their diplomas and prizes! The best part is that they’ve learnt that hard work always has positive results.

Furthermore, special mention should be made of the 1^st winners of each grade:

-       1ºESO – Andrés Enrique Cutillas Martínez

-       2ºESO – África Berengüí Caparros

-       3ºESO – Pablo García Carrillo

-       4ºESO – Andrés Moñino Martínez

CES SAMANIEGO - PROJECT WORK AND INTER-DISCIPLINARY PROJECTS

The new teaching methods and techniques together with the more flexible working systems that our teachers are starting to grow accustomed to, are symptomatic of a fast-changing society.

English and CLIL section teachers have worked very hard so as to make our students aware of the importance of introducing a new work structure using Projects in class. In order to work with a new Project every term (1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd Terms), the students have spent a lot of time organising their work with the teacher’s guidance through different steps and once the work was finished the groups presented it orally in class with the help of a PowerPoint Presentation.

As you have read in previous entries, our students have also participated in an Inter-disciplinary Project about ‘Climate Change’. English, Natural Sciences, Spanish Language, Mathematics, French and Music teachers have worked closely to ensure that the students were presented a cohesive multi-disciplinary project to work with in collaborative groups during class time.

As a Cooperative School, Samaniego has decided to take a new path into Project Work, so you will be definitely reading more about these projects over the following years.
